EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The International Aircraft Fire and Cabin Safety Research Conference was co-hosted by the United States (US) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Australia (CASA). It is a follow-on to the International Fire and Cabin Safety Research Conference held in November 1998. The objective of this Conference was to apprise the aviation community of recent, on-going and planned research activities in the areas of aircraft fire and cabin safety since the November 1998 Conference.

The Conference comprised presentations and discussions in the areas of fire safety (including materials flammability, fuselage burnthrough, halon replacement, fuel tank explosion, and advanced materials), crash dynamics, evacuation, and operational issues.

Presentations, comments and input expressed at the Conference and in the present Proceedings are those of the participants and do not necessarily reflect positions by the organizations represented.

The present Proceedings were compiled by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Center, Atlantic City International Airport, New Jersey, USA, and Galaxy Scientific Corporation, Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, USA.
